“An early morning ritual, a lifetime of storytelling, and the founding of Studio Haddock—built on passion, collaboration, and family
My Story
I start my days with a bit of magic—joining Cape Town’s early risers as a proud member of the “5am Club.” Inspired by Robin Sharma’s life coaching, I lace up my running shoes before dawn and hit the Strand promenade. There’s something extraordinary about those quiet moments by the ocean, with the first light spilling over the water. Every now and then, I’ll take a plunge into the sea—feeling grateful to live so close to this incredible coast. My morning meditation and a perfect cappuccino complete the ritual, grounding me and fueling my energy for whatever the day holds.
A Journey of Storytelling
From newsrooms to my own production company, my life has always been about storytelling. Today, as the Creative Director at Studio Haddock, I focus on bringing people’s stories to life in a way that feels genuine. The name Studio Haddock came about in a brainstorm with my son, Pieter, a brilliant artist and graphic designer. Not only did he help name the studio, but he also designed the logo that represents everything we’re about. It’s always a joy when he can fly down from Antwerp to Cape Town, bringing his unique creative energy along with him.
At Studio Haddock, I love capturing real moments and personalities that don’t just look good but resonate deeply with audiences. Whether it’s a brand story, a corporate film, or a piece for social media, I aim to create videos that feel less like advertising and more like authentic human connections.
Teaching and Sharing
Over a decade ago, I started the Media Academy as a way to share what I’ve learned. I offer short film courses and MoJo (Mobile Journalism) workshops all over Southern Africa, helping people tap into their own storytelling potential. Nothing beats the feeling of seeing someone light up as they discover new ways to tell their own stories. My clients often mention how practical and inspiring these sessions are, and it’s these moments of growth and creativity that keep me passionate about teaching.
Early Inspirations
My career began back in Belgium as a young cameraman and journalist. I covered major news stories across Europe, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, which shaped my approach to storytelling. Those experiences showed me the impact of real stories told with heart and integrity. Today, I still value that approach in everything I do, aiming to show people and brands in the most authentic way possible.
What Matters to Me
Beyond the work, I believe in staying open to new ideas, being true to myself and the people I work with, and finding joy in the small moments. I try to bring a sense of curiosity, kindness, and professionalism to every project, and I’m grateful for every opportunity to create something meaningful. If my story resonates with you, or if you have a vision you’d like to bring to life, I’d love to connect.
